So, every step is the new hardest part of this journey... Let's talk hardware -- I need the right equipment to actually bring my ideas to life.

Creating a home lab can sound intimidating, but you don't need to break the bank or buy professional-grade tool right away. With some budget-friendly basics, you can set yourself up to experiment, learn, and build confidence in your formulations. Here's a peek at the essentials I've gathered for my own skincare lab -- and a few extras I have my eye on for the future.

The Must-Have Equipment

Measuring and Mixing Tools

Accurate measurements are the foundation of safe, effective skincare.

• Digital scale -- Look for one that measures down to at least 0.01 grams for precision.

• Heat-safe containers and beakers -- Glass measuring cups or borosilicate beakers work perfectly.

• Stirring rods and spatulas -- Silicone spatulas and stainless-steel or glass stirring rods make mixing much easier. You can also use wooden popsicle stick, but this will likely results in some loss of product when removing the stick.

Heating and Cooling

Many skincare products require heating oils and water phases separately before combining them.

• Double boiler setup -- You can create one with a saucepan and heat-safe bowl.

• Thermometer -- A digital probe or infrared thermometer ensures your ingredients are added at the correct temperatures.

• Ice bath -- A simple bowl of ice water is all you need for cooling formulas quickly.
